Why doesn't petrol get cheaper when crude falls?
Pump prices are dominated by central excise, state VAT, dealer commission and refining margins. Crude is roughly a third of the retail petrol price in India, and oil marketing companies smooth changes over weeks.
Which crude does MCX track?
MCX crude oil futures settle against WTI (West Texas Intermediate) prices on NYMEX, converted to rupees. Brent-linked MCX contracts trade separately.
What is the MCX crude oil lot size?
The standard contract is 100 barrels; the mini contract is 10 barrels. Values in the table above use those lot sizes.
